I have noticed in the past few days that some students want everything spoon fed to them. How does a teacher create an environment where a student wants to learn?

The teachers job in this situation is to be very aware of the student. Listen to what the student is saying saying, then one can truly know what is blocking the natural flow. It all is really left in the hands of the student.

Everyone deep down on the inside wants to grow and I see this everyday. So I will see what I can do to aid in this growth.

  1. Maybe we think of this like a young animal. We start spoon-feeding, as this ensures that they receive nourishment, but then we gradually try to get them to assume more responsibility for their own learning. Is there any harm to spoon-feeding if it's a stage and not the end point?

Maybe challenge them, or invite them to take more responsibility by coming up with their own format for answering a question.

This is a very interesting question. I'd be interested to see how you think about this issue at the end of the course.
